Recently, TAG Heuer has been on an incredible run releasing spectacular new watches and it does not seem to be stopping anytime soon. From the immensely popular TAG Heuer Carrera three hand collection to now this limited-edition TAG Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 2022 chronograph celebrating their partnership with the Indy 500 and Alexander Rossi.

The Indianapolis 500 is a 500-mile (805km) race that takes 200 laps to complete in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and takes about 3 to 4 hours of driving to complete the race. Since the start of the Indy 500 only 10 racers have ever managed to win it on their very first attempt. One of these 10 drivers is Alexander Rossi, the helmet he is going to wear during the Indy 500 on the 29th of May 2022 is one of the key inspirations for this watch from TAG Heuer.

It comes in a 43mm stainless-steel case and for the most part keeps a lot of the design elements from other watches in this production line. The changes are more present in the dial, the tachymeter bezel, the chronograph pushers and the caseback. The dial is set to honour the Indy racetrack’s “The Brickyard” name and features an asphalt texture that is paired with an outer minute track in a deep brick red which is the same colour that is featured on the 2 o’clock pusher. The flaked metallic gold accents on the dial as well as the second hand and chronograph hands creatures a very interesting texture and colour to the watch. At the 6 o’clock 1/10-second chronograph subdial it has a small rendition of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Pagoda tower. It also features a 4 o’clock date window which personally I feel makes the dial a bit too busy, especially with the bold applied Arabic hour numerals that is also lumed alongside the hour and minute hands.
The caseback features a detailed engraving of the Indy 500 logo, and this watch is also powered by a quartz movement which might not be to everyone’s preference especially when it comes at a cost of $2,400. Final notes about the watch are that it has a water resistance of 200m and comes with a standard stainless-steel bracelet.

TAG Heuer has definitely been making huge contributions and releases in the watch world and while they might occasionally step into creating relevant limited edition watches every now and then, I hope they continue to make more classic watches such as their Carrera three hand collection and expand their current line-up of watches.
