While it is quite common for TAG Heuer to collaborate with athletes as their brand ambassadors, this one feels a bit out of place. While Naomi Osaka is a highly decorated and exceptional tennis player TAG Heuer makes a limited-edition diver. I don’t understand that train of thought but it might have been Naomi’s choice either way it is a very interesting watch with a unique dial design.
Her own quote to TAG Heuer was “I am excited to continue my work with TAG Heuer not only because their time pieces are so renowned and classic but also because it is an honor to be able to create a timepiece with such an iconic brand.” While TAG Heuer has a huge range of watches that would make more sense for a Tennis World Champion, it might seem as if it was her own choice to pick the Aquaracer line of watches. This watch has a light green lacquered dial which Naomi chose herself and features Diamond hour markers. An interesting thing to note about the watch is that the dial text and applied indices appears to be floating thanks to the clear top layer over the green wave textured dial.
It comes in a case size of 36mm with an impressive water resistance of 300m and the case is made out of fine-brushed/polished stainless-steel. The case back has an impressive guilloche dial that is engraved with Naomi Osaka’s personal flower logo. Typical to the Aquaracer line of watches it features black ceramic bezel that features lume on the top marker of the bezel. There is also lume featuring on the hands as well as the 12, 3 and 9o’clock hour markers. There is also a date display at the 6 o’clock position that also paired with the cyclops on the sapphire crystal over the date window. The watch is powered by the Calibre 5 automatic movement that has a power reserve of 38 hours.
The watch is limited to only 250 pieces, and is available only in the United States, Japan and Australia and is priced at $3,650. While I still think it is a bit odd to choose a diver given her sport being Tennis, but players have worn crazier watches on the Tennis Court such as Richard Mille, F.P. Journe and Audemars Piguet.
