When it comes to rectangular watches the JLC Reverso and the Cartier Tank would be the most popular options, however now Oris is stepping up and while it might not be challenging the Reverso or the Tank it is definitely its own distinct watch line for Oris. Oris is unveiling four new colourways with this range and each comes with a different colour leather strap.

When it comes to rectangular or square watches it can either be done right or wrong, and it is a very fine line of it going terribly. While it is understandable that a lot of watch companies do not create many rectangle/square watches due to the vision seen as an “old man’s watch” there is still a customer base for them, and if executed properly a lot more people would be interested in these watches. Oris has definitely created some exceptional timepieces in the past and these would be a definite classic. The dials are executed perfectly and keeps things simple and elegant which is what a lot of watches in this style fail to do so.

The dial is available in either blue, white, anthracite and Bordeaux which I am just going to say a deep red. Each watch comes with a matching colour leather strap, except for the white dial which oddly enough comes with a yellow strap. I don’t know why they chose yellow and if I purchased it, I would change it immediately but that’s just me. They come in a case size of 25.5mm by 38mm and it is made out of stainless steel. It does have domed sapphire crystal on the front dial, but the caseback is made out of mineral glass which showcases the Oris Calibre 561 automatic movement. There is a date window at the 6 o’clock position and the only numerals are the 12, 3 and 9 hour numerals. The watch is only water resistant to 3 bars or 30 metres so it should be fine for just daily use without using it for swimming or diving.

Comparing it to the Reverso or the Tank it is a lot more affordable if you are a fan of square/rectangle watches as you can purchase any one of the four colourways for CHF1,800. This is an excellent choice and due to the price and it being readily available at any authorised dealer or boutique you can easily try this on and see if rectangular watches are for you. Also if you are not happy with the yellow strap, they are all quick-change straps so it makes it even easier to remove it and change it for a proper one.
