The announcement of three new field watches with cases made out of DLC coating is a definite welcome from Islander or more commonly known from the very popular YouTube channel and website Long Island Watch. All three field watches alongside a small modification to a previous model were all shown and previewed on their YouTube channel which can be seen here. These three models will definitely be another fan favourite from Long Island Watch as their watches have nothing but exceptional reviews from their owners.

DLC coating stands for Diamond-like carbon, which is a coating that can be applied on different metals. A very popular choice of DLC coating is on steel which turns steel into a matte black colour. Since the coating has carbon particles the layer is much more durable and scratch-resistant making it a very welcoming addition for a field watch. DLC coating has a Vicker hardness level 5 times that of 316L stainless steel. Islander did use DLC coating on some previous watches such as the #ISL-34, but this being for their field watches makes a lot more sense.

The #ISL-83 and the #ISL-82 share a lot of their specifications with the few differences between them being the dial colour and hour hand and minute colours as well as the lume. Both come in a 39mm case size with an exhibition window case back and both are 12mm thick with a 20mm strap width. The lume on the #ISL-82 are only applied on the hour and minute hand and the 12-hour numbers and markers around the dial. While the #ISL-83 lume is applied on the entire dial and has black markers. The #ISL-81 on the other hand comes with a screw down case back with a F-14 fighter jet on the back, and comes in a case size of 42mm and the hour and minute hand as well as the dial markings all have lume on them. What is common with all three watches is that they are all water resistant to 100m with a 1 year warranty.

Islander has been making some beautiful watches and they continue to not only exceed expectations but continue to make their mark alongside other watch brands. I have hardly ever seen a negative review on any Islander watch, and the owner Marc who is a true watch fan and enthusiast will definitely continue on with building Islander to be a definite competitor against other watch brands.
