The 2021 America’s Cup will being on the 6th of March and will end on the 21st of March and since Omega is the official timekeeper for the event, they have released a watch to commemorate this perfectly and it is not a limited edition watch meaning everyone will have the chance to purchase this watch. There is also a very special function on this watch that makes it the perfect watch for this event which will be discussed further down below.

The watch comes in the classic 44mm case size made out of stainless steel and the bezel is made out of blue ceramic with a white enamel diving scale. The pushers on the watch also have blue and red soft rubber to improve grip so that the functions of the watch can be used much easier regardless of the surrounding conditions. Speaking about the special function on this watch that makes it perfect for the America’s Cup Omega has included a regatta countdown indicator and it is also water resistant to 300m. Inside the regatta countdown subdial as well as the small seconds subdial the hand is shaped as a boat hull as a bonus added detail. Another small detail is seen on the second hand as it is made out of red anodized aluminium and has the shape of the America’s Cup on the end of the counterweight. When you purchase this watch you get a blue rubber strap alongside with a stainless steel bracelet and both of these straps are equipped with Omega’s new patented quick change system. This system allows anyone to quickly change the strap without using any tools as it is just a simple button that can be pressed and releases the pins of the strap. There is domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the front of the watch and sapphire crystal is also used on the exhibition window to showcase the automatic Calibre Omega 9900 movement.

The Calibre Omega 9900 movement was first introduced at BaselWorld in 2016 in the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean and it is an automatic movement which is approved under METAS. It is resistant to magnetic resistance reaching until 15,000 gauss and on the movement there is a rhodium plated finish with Geneva waves. This can all be seen through that exhibition window, which is great for people who love to admire this movement. It also comes with a 60 hour power reserve and a 5 year warranty alongside with the watch. On the caseback surrounding the exhibition window there is “36th America’s Cup” and “Auckland 2021” engraved on the caseback. As it is a watch to commemorate an event Omega has spared no details and also made a special box for the watch that is blue and has a red lining around the zipper.

The great news about this watch is that it is not a limited edition watch however the watch is priced at $10,700. This watch is available through Omega or their authorised dealers and if you are a fan of the America’s Cup this is definitely a watch that will go on your watchlist. It will be interesting to see for what other events Omega will release watches for in 2021 or even what other manufacturers or brands will release this year.
