2021 marks the 140th anniversary of Seiko and they have officially announced that throughout the year they will be celebrating this event by releasing limited edition watches throughout the year. With one of these watches being the Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series 140th Anniversary which is limited to 4,000 pieces worldwide.
Possibly the best variation when it comes to the Presage line of watches is the new all black case and bracelet presage with gold indices and gold hour hands. The dial of the watch incorporates a Japanese Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern. This leaf was traditionally used as a material for fabrics and it symbolised rapid, strong growth and also was told to bring good health. This pattern of this leaf is a good representation of Seiko for their strong growth since their inception. This watch is inspired by dawn, so the gold accents onto that dark dial is set to be reminiscent of the sunlight at dawn. Which I think has been executed perfectly and seeing this in person is a definite must as the pictures will not do that dial justice.
The watch case comes blackened and the strap to match this case is also blackened with a stain polish on the links with two narrower links in the centre of the strap being highly polished. Giving it a nice contrast between the satin and highly polished links. The case size is 39.3mm and is also paired with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. There is also sapphire crystal on the exhibition caseback to show the calibre 6R35 automatic movement that has a power reserve of 70 hours. It is water resistant to 100m and also has a high anti-magnetic resistance. The watch comes with the black stainless steel strap and there is also a black leather calf strap that is included in the watch box as well.
Everyone regardless of whether they are into watches or not has heard of Seiko, and it will be very interesting to see what other watches will be released this year due to the 140th anniversary. The watches that have currently been announced and released have definitely peaked my interest and have set the standard of watches to be released in the future. This watch will be available at Seiko Boutiques and authorised dealers worldwide and will retail at $1,400.
