If you are a fan of watch channels on YouTube you have more than likely watched one of Long Island Watches videos. The channel is run by Marc, the owner of the company longislandwatch.com. This post is not sponsored I just thought it is very cool and worth mentioning.
Now onto the news which I find really exciting especially for the watch industry as a whole as it shows someone who might just be able to compete with some of the bigger brands purely based on the value of the watch he is presenting. The watch I am talking about is the Islander Automatic Field Watch #ISL-40, #ISL-41, #ISL-42 and #ISL-43 (Each model number corresponds to a different dial colour).
On the website it is currently available at $189, but exactly what do you get for that price. You get an NH36A movement, which is an automatic movement from Seiko. It has 24 jewels and also features hand winding and hacking. Hacking means if you pull out the crown of the watch the second hand will stop moving, very useful when trying to set the time accurately. It also comes equipped with a 41-hour power reserve. It has luminous hour and minute hands as well as the five minute markers on the watch. The case of the watch itself is 39mm and 12mm thick in stainless steel. Now for the price you also get anti-reflective sapphire crystal both on the dial as well as the exhibition window of the watch. It is also 100m water resistant. For $189 the watch you are getting offers a ridiculous amount of value.
It comes in four dial colours (white, black, blue and green), and they all come with a matching colour nylon strap. There have been quite a few watches released by Marc, there is also a diver variation that is priced at $299 with the ceramic bezel version priced at $329. Most of the reviews of the Islander watches have been nothing but positive and just reiterating the same points about it being great value.
I remember looking back at the website and finding the prices they had for Seiko and Orient watches so much cheaper than other retailers. I stumbled on his YouTube channel with his very popular video showcasing the Orient Sun and Moon Version 2. Watching Marc’s YouTube channel trailer gives a lot of insight as to what started as just a hobby to being a very successful business.
I will definitely keep an eye out for the upcoming watch releases and cannot wait to see what more he has planned as I am a big fan of both his channel as well as the current line of Islander watches.
